By Terry - Review

OK, I'm warning you now, these gorgeous products are a pretty penny. I have splurged on Chanel, YSL, Givenchy and Dior. Oh, and most definitely skincare as well, but I had never tried By Terry before and some of her products seemed so expensive! What's with this stuff? I could only find it at Saks and Barneys. It was like a treasure hunt. I was first interested in By Terry because it is known for using hyaluronic acid in products. Hyaluronic acid is a good acid that actually helps your skin retain water/hydration. And I've read on other blogs (gh0stparties & AModelRecommends) that some of the By Terry products were in their holy grail top of the top products. Hmmm, that's a big statement for a blogger to say considering they've probably tried so many products. So, of course I had to give it a go.

I first ordered By Terry Sheer Expert and By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder. Holy F*&%. This stuff is good. I swear it's like gold. 1. because of the price and 2. because of the quality. I actually have nothing to compare these products to. Sheer Expert is a sheer coverage foundation that comes out liquidy and smooths over the skin creating a natural luminous finish. It just glides on blurring imperfections and even making pores somehow look less noticeable. I have never seen my skin look so much like skin with a foundation before, if that makes any sense. It really gives such a natural finish. Your skin looks like it has nothing on, but is just luminous and even. It is sheer coverage so you have to have relatively good skin for this as it will just even your tone and texture, not really cover anything. I should also mention that it does have a strong herbal type scent to it. It doesn't bother me, but if you're sensitive to smells, be weary of that. It does definitely feel hydrating on the skin. I actually feel like my skin looks better after wearing this foundation. Sounds strange to comment that about makeup, but my skin feels super hydrated and plump after wearing this all day. I would highly recommend this for anyone with dry or normal skin. If you have extremely oily skin, I would be cautious. Combination skin could get away with it though (as I do), but you will have to set it with a powder to make it last. Speaking of the powder, OMG, the powder! I'm really picky with translucent setting powders as I hate for them to appear white on the skin and I find that most just don't sit well on my skin. Clinging to dry patches and looking slightly unnatural. Most of them I've just used to set my makeup in place, but I don't expect them to make me look any better. This stuff does though! It's like putting a sheer veil over your skin. It's hydrating which is rare for a powder and it doesn't settle into lines or anything. I swear it looks like you put a filter over your skin. It's seriously good stuff. I think this is excellent for all skin types, but be aware that it will give you a luminous satiny finish. It will not make your skin look matte so if you have oily skin, you will need to touch up throughout the day.

After having a wonderful experience with those two products, I got greedy and ordered more! As you'll note from my previous skincare post, I'm working through getting my skin to a good place. I swear my skin had a major freak out at the beginning of the process (it is much happier now) which was when I had first ordered these By Terry products. So, I decided to try the By Terry Cover Expert foundation which has a fuller coverage than the Sheer Expert. With that, I also picked up the Hyaluronic Blush and the Hyaluronic Sheer Rouge Lipstick (fancy, eh?). I was so eager to try Cover Expert and I was not disappointed! It feels exactly the same as Sheer Expert, but with more coverage. It's so strange how lightweight it feels, but it's quite pigmented. It has a more velvety satin finish than the Sheer Expert, but still looks very very natural on the skin. Like Sheer Expert, it is also hydrating and just all around beautiful. It's great for those of you that have more uneven tone of the skin and need more coverage or for an evening out when you want to look perfected. Even with the higher coverage, I still find this hydrating on the skin and it does also have that same scent as the sheer expert. I cannot get enough of both of the foundations. I haven't been using them everyday as they were so expensive, I want to save them for special days when I want to look fantastic. These are definitely going into my top fives. Enough said.

The blush and lipstick were equally as satisfying. The blush is a cream blush that squeezes out of the tube. You just need the smallest amount to get a sheer wash of color on the cheeks. It glides on effortlessly and feels actually very refreshing upon application. It looks so very natural and pretty. The lipstick is another favorite for me as I hate hate hate wearing lipstick. If I find a good color, I'll usually just suffer through the day with it, but I can never find lipsticks that don't suck all the moisture out of my lips. This one, however, is amazing. It has beautiful pigmentation, but is still a bit sheer. It feels light on the lips and it is very hydrating. I find it lasts well on me and I never feel like I need to apply a lip balm underneath or as though I need lipgloss to top it off. It's really good stuff (did I already say that? Probably!).

So I just spent four paragraphs raving about all of these things and you probably think I'm crazy. I am, but I'll give you a few of my final thoughts. Are all of these worth the price tag? For me, yes. But, if I were recommending this to a friend, I'd highly highly suggest trying out the foundations. You won't regret it. Just sample it on your skin at a counter. They're gorgeous and worth the splurge. And the powder. If you have trouble finding a good one, this is the one for you. Especially if you find powders leave your skin looking dry and dehydrated. It one will do wonders. The lipstick and the blush? They're good, but not must haves. If you have the money, you'll be happy with the purchases, but if not, I say pass.

Talk soon!
